Cat. #0019633212: WHEELER OAKMAN

Extremely rare vintage violet fountain pen signature, dated March 9, 1916, on a 2x4-inch off-white card, affixed to a slightly larger black sheet.  In very good condition.  Note that the image of the star shown alongside the scan of the autograph here is not actually included with the signed item.  This is just the third example we have ever encountered.  Nasty-looking, mustached villain par excellance Wheeler Oakman appeared in nearly 300 silent and early talkie films, playing cold-blooded gangsters, slick-talking swindlers, greedy land barons, and crooked bankers.  Highlights of his career include Outside the Law (1920) with Lon Chaney, Ghost Patrol (1936), Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars (1938), Torture Ship (1939), Bowery at Midnight (1942), The Ape Man (1943) with Bela Lugosi, Ghosts on the Loose (1943), and Superman (1948).
